Kagu is endemic to the mainland of New Caledonia and exists nowhere else.
Kagu can be heard at sunrise, and sometimes sunset. The sounds he utters are often compared to dog barks.
Kagu lives on the ground, and doesn’t fly.
Kagu sleeps at night, usually perched on a low branch or a log.
Kagu couples live together for life, and the female lays one egg per year.
The young kagu is brown whereas adults are ash grey with dark stripes on their inner wings.
Kagu feeds on worms, insects, snails and lizards.
Its predators are dogs, as well as cats and wild pigs.
